Oregon sophomore Aiden Carter achieved a personal record of 7,497 points to secure fifth place in the top section of the Bryan Clay decathlon, according to an announcement on April 10. The event took place over two days in Azusa, California.

Carter’s performance is notable as he set personal bests in seven out of ten events during the competition. These included improvements in the 110-meter hurdles and pole vault on Friday. In the hurdles, Carter clocked a time of 14.03 seconds, surpassing his previous best from earlier this season at the Jim Bush Legends meet. He also matched his outdoor pole vault best from last year’s Bryan Clay Multis by clearing 4.70 meters.

The sophomore completed his first decathlon of the year with a javelin throw measuring 47.28 meters and finished the 1500 meters in just over five minutes. Before this event, Carter’s highest decathlon score was 7,235 points at last year’s meet in Azusa.

Ben Barton from Brigham Young University won Group A of the decathlon with a total score of 7,998 points.

Looking ahead, Oregon will host its Team Invitational on April 17-18 at Hayward Field. Ticket packages for upcoming home meets are available for purchase and include entry to both next weekend’s invitational and other major events such as Oregon Twilight on May 8 and June’s NCAA Championships.
