Avamere Riverpark of Eugene was the third largest nursing facility in Lane County in the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The data noted Avamere Riverpark offered 119 available beds, which was 27 above Lane County’s average for the period. An average of 93.5 residents received care there during those three months.

The facility received an overall CMS rating of 1 out of 5, which is lower than Oregon’s statewide average of 3.1 among nursing homes.

Marquis Springfield emerged as the county’s largest nursing home with 136 available beds in the quarter, while Valley West Health Care Center was second, offering 121 beds.

Avamere Riverpark of Eugene had paid out $35,532 in fines and incurred one penalty by the end of Q1 2026.

Overall, Lane County had 12 for-profit nursing homes.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the nation’s older population continues expanding while the number of younger Americans drops. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans 65 and older grew by 13%, contrasted with a 1.7% decline for those under 18. The population of older adults has climbed from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A study released in 2021 projected nearly half of Americans in this age group—about 28 million—are likely to need long-term services and supports at some stage, with more than one-third potentially requiring nursing home care in the future.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
