Stanford University has announced changes to the schedule and locations for this weekend’s Cardinal Classic softball tournament due to a permitting issue at its new stadium. The university was unable to secure a temporary occupancy permit from the County of Santa Clara, resulting in the relocation of games originally set for Stanford’s campus.

Oregon will now play Cal State Fullerton on Friday at 9 a.m. at Santa Clara University. On Saturday, Oregon will move to West Valley College in Saratoga, California, facing Fullerton again at 9:30 a.m., followed by Kentucky at noon. On Sunday, Oregon is scheduled to play No. 13 Stanford at noon at West Valley College. Cal Poly, initially slated as an opponent for Oregon on Sunday, has withdrawn from the tournament.

KWVA radio intends to broadcast all four games unless there are logistical issues. However, Sunday’s game against Stanford will not be live streamed by ACC Network Plus as previously planned.

In a statement, Stanford explained: “This weekend’s Cardinal Classic I softball tournament, scheduled to be held at Stanford University from Feb. 12-15, will instead be moved to alternate locations due to finishing work that needs to be completed at the new Stanford Softball Stadium.”

The statement continued: “Stanford was not able to complete all of the finishing work necessary to receive a temporary occupancy permit from the County of Santa Clara before last weekend’s Stanford Invitational. Because the necessary permitting was not in place, the decision to proceed with the Invitational last weekend was made in error, and after review by university leadership, the decision has been made to move games from this weekend’s tournament to San Jose State University and Santa Clara University, along with West Valley College, which hosted two games on Thursday.”

“Stanford sincerely regrets the disruption and inconvenience to the student-athletes, coaches, and fans of all of the participating teams. We greatly appreciate the flexibility of these three local institutions in being able to accommodate these teams for competition this weekend.”
