Oregon junior Kiara Romero achieved a top-five finish at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, tying for fourth place after shooting a final-round 4-under 68 on Saturday at Augusta National Golf Club.
Romero’s performance marks the best finish ever by an Oregon Duck at this event. Her strong final round moved her up ten spots on the leaderboard, making her one of only two Ducks to place in the top five, alongside Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu who tied for fifth in 2023.
Romero was consistent throughout the tournament, entering the last day tied for fourteenth after recording scores of two under par in each of the first two rounds. In her final round, she made five birdies and just one bogey, including birdies on holes 1, 6, and 8 to go three under at the turn. She added back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13 before finishing with a bogey on hole 17.
Currently ranked as the number one amateur golfer in the world, Romero was joined in this year’s field by fellow Oregon junior Karen Tsuru. Two future Ducks—transfer Catherine Rao and incoming freshman Prim Prachnakorn—also competed.
The Oregon women’s golf team is set to close its regular season starting Monday at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, California. However, both Romero and Tsuru will not participate as they take time off following their competition at Augusta.
