Luke Tewalt achieved a significant milestone on May 1 by recording the seventh-fastest 5,000-meter time in Oregon track and field history during the Payton Jordan Invitational. Tewalt completed the race in 13:19.82, finishing third among collegiate runners and tenth overall.
The performance highlights ongoing progress for Tewalt, who previously set a personal best of 13:28.18 last season. Last month at Stanford, he also ran a notable 28:00.52 in the 10,000 meters to secure sixth place on Oregon’s all-time list for that event.
Other Oregon athletes also delivered strong results at Stanford. Evan Burke finished with a personal best of 13:28.84, while Evan Bishop clocked in at a career-best time of 13:37.81. Connor Burns made his outdoor debut for Oregon with a finish of 13:42.78.
On the women’s side, Dalia Frias improved her lifetime best by eight seconds with a time of 15:48.32 in the invitational section of the women’s race—earning her both a top-10 finish and entry into this season’s Big Ten top-10 rankings based on times before the meet.
Additional results included Taylor Wiseman finishing second in discus at OSU High Performance with a throw just shy of her season’s best and Juan Gonzalez making his University of Oregon debut by placing seventh in section two of the men’s race.
Looking ahead, former Ducks Kyree King and Jadyn Mays will represent Team USA while Ella Clayton will compete for Canada during Saturday’s World Relays coverage from Botswana starting at 5 a.m Pacific Time on Peacock TV. The Ducks’ sprints, jumps and throws teams are set to compete next at Saturday’s Desert Heat Classic in Tucson as well as continued action in Corvallis highlighted by UO entries Elliott Cook, Ben Greene and Will Heslam.
