Lyndsey Grein has been named the D1 Softball National Pitcher of the Week, according to an announcement on April 14. This is the second time this season that Grein has received a national pitcher of the week honor.
The recognition comes after Grein led Oregon to a series sweep over Maryland. Over three games, she recorded a 3-0 record with a 0.93 earned run average in 15 innings pitched. She allowed just two runs on seven hits, struck out 25 batters, and walked only two, giving up only one extra base hit during the series.
In Friday’s game, Grein pitched four shutout innings with eight strikeouts and gave up two hits as Oregon won by run rule, 11-0. On Saturday, she threw four hitless relief innings and struck out seven in an extra-inning victory for Oregon. In Sunday’s game, she completed all seven innings with ten strikeouts as Oregon secured an 8-2 win.
Grein was previously honored as Wilson/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week on March 24. So far this season, she holds a record of 21-4 and leads the Big Ten Conference in strikeouts (164), walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) at 0.94, and opponent batting average (.173). She is also second in wins and third in earned run average (2.15).
Oregon is currently ranked No.13 nationally and will host No.23 Washington for a three-game series starting Friday at Jane Sanders Stadium.
