During the first quarter of 2026, Marquis Springfield was identified as Lane County’s largest nursing home, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

CMS data showed the facility offered 136 beds—44 more than the county’s average at that time—and provided care to an average of 78.1 residents throughout the quarter.

Marquis Springfield received an overall rating of 4 out of 5 from CMS, surpassing the Oregon nursing home average of 3.1.

Valley West Health Care Center was the county’s second-largest nursing home, with 121 beds, while Avamere Riverpark of Eugene ranked third, offering 119 beds during the same period.

Marquis Springfield also had no reported fines or penalties for the first quarter of 2026.

There were 12 for-profit nursing homes operating in Lane County, Oregon, as of that quarter.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the nation’s older population is expanding while younger groups are shrinking. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, while the population under 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population has climbed sharply, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million as of 2024.

A 2021 analysis estimates that almost half of this age group, around 28 million people, are likely to need long-term services and support, and more than a third could eventually require care in a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
