Oregon falls to Stanford and USC at MPSF Mid-season Rumble

The Oregon beach volleyball team suffered two 5-0 losses on the first day of the MPSF Mid-Season Rumble in Los Angeles, falling to No. 1 Stanford and third-ranked USC.

Against Stanford, the Ducks were swept across all matches. Daley McClellan and Elsa Snipes saw their four-match winning streak end at the No. 2 position after a close match with Avery Jackson and Brooke Rockwell, who won 21-17, 21-16. Stanford clinched the overall victory with a win on court three. In the top pairs match, Bella Gamache and Liz Rossi closed the gap to within one point in the second set but ultimately lost as Kelly Belardi and Ruby Sorra secured six of the last nine points for Stanford.

2: Jackson/Rockwell (Stanford) def. McClellan/Snipes (Oregon) – 21-17, 21-16
3: Clarke/Stowell (Stanford) def. Fife/Slojkowski (Oregon) – 21-7, 21-10
4: Bell/Tusher (Stanford) def. Bjornson/Taylor (Oregon) – 21-14, 21-7
5: Fisher/Hoffman (Stanford) def. George/Koellner (Oregon) – 21-13, 21-15

In their second match of the day against USC, Gwen Fife and AJ Slojkowski forced a third set at No. 3 pairs after dropping the first set but rallying for an extended second-set win of 24-22 before Alana Embry and Quincy Stephens secured victory for USC in the deciding frame.

2: Coakley/Pater (USC) def. McClellan/Snipes (Oregon) – 21-8, 21-8
3: Embry/Stephens (USC) def. Fife/Slojkowski (Oregon) – 21-14, 22-24, 15-12
4: Kok/Zaengle (USC) def. Bjornson/Taylor (Oregon) – 21-15, 21-16
5: Bolyard/Truslow (USC) def. George/Koellner (Oregon) – 21-11, 21-14

Looking ahead, Oregon will continue its schedule on Saturday with matches against Texas and UCLA—both ranked among the nation’s top five teams—with games scheduled for a morning start against Texas followed by an afternoon contest versus UCLA.
