The Oregon men’s golf team finished the opening round of the 79th Western Intercollegiate in ninth place after shooting a 10-over-par 360 on April 13 at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California.

This tournament is significant as it brings together top collegiate teams and offers players a chance to compete against strong opponents. California leads the field at seven under par, followed by UNLV at six under and Stanford, ranked No. 18, at four under.

Freshman Sebastian Desoisa led Oregon with an even-par score of 70. It marked his thirteenth par-or-better performance in twenty-four rounds this season. After starting two over through three holes, Desoisa played the next fifteen holes two under par, including three birdies on the back nine.

Aiden Krafft and Ramil Saelim each shot two-over-par rounds of 72, while Casper Nerpin and Jeffrey Kwak both posted scores of three-over-par 73 to complete Oregon’s counting scores for the day. Nerpin recorded an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole—his fourth eagle this season and eleventh overall for Oregon—and was one of only five players to make an eagle during the opening round.

Oregon’s leaderboard standings after day one include Desoisa tied for twenty-eighth with his score of seventy; Krafft and Saelim tied for forty-fourth; Nerpin and Kwak tied for fifty-third; Kyreece Romero and Oscar Lent (competing individually) both shot seventy-nine to tie for eighty-fourth place.

Looking ahead, Oregon will begin play in round two at ten o’clock Tuesday morning Pacific Time. The Golf Channel is scheduled to provide live coverage beginning at four o’clock that afternoon.
