The Oregon men’s golf team finished the second round of the Big Ten Championships on May 2 tied for 10th place, carding a 6-over-par 286 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland.

The team showed improvement from their opening round score of 10-over-par but remained outside the top contenders in an 18-team field. Oregon is now at a combined total of 16 over par after two rounds. The conditions were described as cold and wet, typical for the Pacific Northwest, which presented challenges to all competitors.

Ramil Saelim led Oregon with an even-par performance, climbing up by eighteen spots on the individual leaderboard. “Saelim rebounded from a 6-over-par opening round to pace Oregon with an even-par performance. The sophomore carded 35 on both the front and back nines, recording two birdies and two bogeys on each side, though his final two bogeys came on holes 17 and 18,” according to the release.

Sebastian Desoisa shot a score of two over par (72), finishing just behind Saelim. Jeffrey Kwak and Aiden Krafft also posted scores of two over par each in this round; both are tied overall at five over par through two rounds. Kwak closed with a birdie on hole eighteen while Krafft made two birdies in his last three holes.

No. 33 UCLA took control during Saturday’s play with a ten-under round that gave them an eleven-stroke lead heading into Sunday’s final day. No.50 Washington holds second place while No.12 Illinois sits third after day two.

Oregon will begin its third and final round from hole ten at nine-thirty Sunday morning, with live coverage scheduled to air on Big Ten Network.
