The Oregon men’s golf team finished even after the first round of The Goodwin tournament in Stanford, California, on March 26. Sophomore Ramil Saelim and senior Casper Nerpin led the lineup, with Saelim tying for second place individually at 5-under par, just one stroke behind the leader.

This performance is significant as it comes during a busy week for Oregon, who are playing their second tournament and fourth round. Strong showings from both experienced players and underclassmen have positioned the Ducks well early in this three-day event.

Saelim built on his recent momentum from a final-round score of 68 at the Duck Invitational by shooting a season-low 65 in Thursday’s opening round. Nerpin contributed four birdies to finish his sixth round under par this year and currently sits tied for ninth on the leaderboard. Other team members faced challenges with double bogeys but continued to contribute to Oregon’s overall standing.

Notably, Oregon matched the second-best par-5 scoring average (4.73) among teams and recorded 41 birdies along with 164 pars—the third most by any team in the field. Sebastian Desoisa was one of only twelve players to card an eagle during day one, while Aiden Krafft posted fourteen birdies—second-most among all individuals competing.

The Ducks will continue play over two more days as The Goodwin tournament progresses.
