Oregon men’s tennis defeats Liberty to remain unbeaten at home

Oregon’s men’s tennis team continued its strong performance at home with a 6-1 win over Liberty on Friday at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene. The Ducks, now holding an 8-2 record for the season, secured the doubles point and went on to win five of six singles matches.

The match began with Oregon’s top doubles pair, Matthew Burton and Pierre Mouesca, who are ranked No. 28 nationally, earning a 6-3 victory against Siwanat Auytayakul and Carl Roothman. Vlad Breazu and Declan Galligan followed up with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot, clinching the doubles point for Oregon. The third doubles match was left unfinished at 5-5.

In singles play, Sam Olszakowski delivered a commanding performance at No. 3 by defeating Auytayakul 6-1, 6-2. At No. 1 singles, Breazu secured another straight-set win over Rod Santiago Arraez with scores of 6-4, 6-3. Lachlan Robertson clinched the overall match for Oregon with his three-set victory (6-1, 2-6, 6-4) at No. 5 singles.

Pierre Mouesca came from behind to take a close contest at No. 2 singles, winning in three sets: “6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 10-7.” Cameron Burton added to Oregon’s tally by rallying for a comeback win at No. 6: “4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.”

Liberty avoided being shut out when David Ekpenyong defeated Matthew Burton in three sets at No. 4 singles: “3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).”

With this result, Oregon remains unbeaten on its home courts this season.
