The University of Oregon’s No. 15 ranked softball team will travel to the East Coast for its first-ever visit to Maryland, where it will play a three-game series against the Terrapins beginning Friday, April 7. The opening game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
This matchup is notable as Oregon holds a 4-2 advantage in their all-time meetings with Maryland. The teams last faced each other in 2024 at the Jane Sanders Classic, splitting two games.
Oregon enters the series with several impressive statistics this season. The Ducks are currently ranked No. 12 in RPI and have achieved 15 come-from-behind victories. They have played one of the nation’s toughest schedules, ranking as the sixteenth most difficult nationally, and lead NCAA Division I with a program-record 27 sacrifice flies over their first 35 games—28 of which were against teams ranked in the top 75 RPI.
Individual performances have also stood out recently. Elon Butler broke both Big Ten and Oregon single-game records by collecting six hits against Iowa and hit for the cycle on April 4—the first Duck ever to do so. For her performance during that sweep of Iowa, Butler was named Softball America National Player of the Week and Big Ten Player of the Week after batting .583 with multiple extra-base hits and five runs batted in.
Freshman Tayrn Ho earned recognition as Big Ten Freshman of the Week on April 6 after hitting .556 during Oregon’s sweep over Iowa, contributing key RBIs and strong defensive plays at third base without committing an error.
Kaylynn Jones has been one of Oregon’s most consistent hitters this season, maintaining a .387 average while batting above .300 every weekend so far.
As they prepare for Maryland, Oregon aims to continue its success after winning twelve straight Big Ten series dating back to last season.
