The Oregon track and field team recorded nine victories across three different meets on April 4, highlighted by standout performances from both the relay teams and individual athletes in sprints, hurdles, throws, and jumps.
The achievements demonstrate the team’s depth as they competed at the UNLV Rebel Elite in Las Vegas, the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, California, and the Stanford Invitational. The results included two top-10 program marks from throwers at the Triton Invitational.
At UNLV Rebel Elite, both men’s and women’s teams opened their day with wins in the 4×100-meter relays. Aaliyah McCormick won the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.99 seconds—her fastest outdoor opener—while Kai Graves-Blanks took first place in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 13.61 seconds. PJ Ize-Iyamu sprinted to victory in the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.11 seconds.
At Triton Invitational, redshirt freshman Ben Smith became just the sixth man in Oregon history to surpass twenty meters outdoors as he won shot put with a mark of 20.02 meters (65-8.25). Teammate Kobe Lawrence finished second at 19.13 meters (62-9.25). Alicia Khunou achieved her second top-10 program performance for the weekend by throwing a lifetime best of 16.37 meters (53-8.5) to finish third overall in women’s shot put.
Senior Emily Fitzsimmons cleared a season-best height of 4.31 meters (14-1.75) to win pole vault at Triton Invitational and attempted to break Becky Holliday’s school record but came up short on her final attempt.
Cassandra Atkins matched her personal best triple jump distance of 13.39 meters (43-11.25) during her last attempt at Stanford Invitational to claim first place among women competitors there.
Looking ahead, Oregon is scheduled for Bryan Clay Multis on April 9–10 in Azusa, California; followed by hosting duties for Oregon Team Invitational on April 17–18 as well as other major home events including NCAA Championships later this season.
