The Oregon women’s golf team, currently ranked No. 3 nationally, will compete in its second tournament of the spring season at the Chevron Collegiate in Humble, Texas. The event will take place at the Golf Club of Houston from February 23 to 24, with a field that includes five top-20 teams: Arkansas (No. 6), Mississippi State (No. 11), North Carolina (No. 16), and Baylor (No. 20). This marks Oregon’s first appearance at the Chevron Collegiate.
The tournament format consists of 36 holes on Monday and a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday. The Ducks’ lineup features Kiara Romero, Tong An, Sophie Han, Darae Chung, and Karen Tsuru.
Junior Karen Tsuru is set to make her season debut for Oregon after earning all-Big Ten first-team honors last year and an honorable mention as an All-American by the WGCA. She achieved a scoring average of 72.62 last season, with five top-20 finishes including her first career win at the Juli Inkster Invitational.
Oregon began its spring campaign earlier this month with a fifth-place finish at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge. The team improved across all three rounds and posted a final-round score of one-under-par 283 to move up two places in the standings. Sophomore Tong An and junior Kiara Romero tied for fifteenth place individually, while freshman Sophie Han finished tied for nineteenth.
Kiara Romero continues to lead Oregon both statistically and historically. She is currently ranked as the top amateur women’s golfer globally and has been recognized as a two-time first-team All-American—the only player in program history to achieve this distinction twice in their first two seasons. Last year she won both Big Ten individual honors and helped secure the conference title for Oregon’s team.
Romero holds several program records including single-season scoring average (69.91) and birdies (138) set during the previous season, along with lowest individual round—an unprecedented ten-under-par 62 during last year’s NCAA Gold Canyon Regional. Her current career scoring average stands at 70.25; she has also surpassed Briana Chacon for seventh on Oregon’s all-time birdie list with over 300 birdies scored as a Duck.
