The Oregon women’s golf team is set to compete at the Game Above Sports Invitational in Rolling Hills Estates, California, beginning Monday. The Ducks, ranked No. 3 nationally, will face a competitive field that includes four other top-25 teams: No. 2 USC, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 11 UCLA, and No. 22 Arizona.
This marks Oregon’s first appearance at the event, which will be held at Rolling Hills Country Club from March 9 to March 10. The format consists of 36 holes on Monday followed by a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
Oregon’s lineup features Kiara Romero (scoring average: 69.42), Tong An (71.94), Sophie Han (72.58), Darae Chung (73.08), and Shyla Singh (74.32).
Live scoring for the tournament will be available on Scoreboard Live, with updates provided via Twitter at @OregonWGolf and live streaming coverage for the second and third rounds on the CGNPlus.com YouTube channel.
Junior Kiara Romero recently made history for Oregon by winning her fifth career tournament title at the Chevron Collegiate last month—breaking the program record previously held by Kendra Little since 2011. Romero finished with an overall score of 11-under par and led all players with 18 birdies during the event.
“The record-breaking win by Kiara Romero wasn’t the only headline for the Ducks at the Chevron Collegiate, as they also got a boost from the return of junior Karen Tsuru to the lineup,” according to team officials.
Tsuru returned after missing much of this season due to injury and finished seventh individually at five-under par in her season debut. She was joined in the top-20 by sophomore Tong An (T-20). This performance contributed to Oregon’s third runner-up finish so far in the current season.
Since Derek Radley became head coach ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, Oregon has recorded top-two finishes in tournaments on 33 occasions.
Romero continues to lead both her team and collegiate golf more broadly as she currently holds status as “the No. 1 ranked amateur women’s golfer in the world.” She is also recognized as “the first two-time, first-team all-American in Oregon history” and was named Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Year after winning both individual conference honors and helping secure a team championship last spring.
In her time with Oregon, Romero has shot par-or-better in most rounds played—63 out of 79—and holds records for wins (five) along with multiple top finishes including seven runner-up results and twenty top-ten placements across twenty-seven tournaments.
