The Oregon women’s golf team is in fourth place after the first two rounds of the Game Above Sports Invitational, which took place on March 9 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Rolling Hills Estates, California.
The tournament is significant for the Ducks as they compete against top-ranked teams and aim to improve their standing ahead of the final round. The event also saw a notable return by junior Kiara Romero, who missed the opening round due to illness but came back to lead her team in round two.
Junior Darae Chung and freshman Sophie Han both shot 3-under-par 69s in the opening round, helping Oregon finish with an even-par score of 288. Despite Romero’s absence in round one, Chung and Han stepped up with strong performances. “Chung answered her lone bogey at No. 13 by shooting 2 under the rest of the round, while Han made three consecutive birdies to get to 4 under before making her only bogey at No. 17,” according to the team’s report.
Romero returned for round two and posted an even-par 72, marking her 64th par-or-better score out of 80 career rounds as a Duck. Oregon finished with a team score of 10-over-par for the second round and will enter Tuesday’s final trailing USC, Texas A&M, and Eastern Michigan on the leaderboard. The Ducks are currently two strokes ahead of SMU for fifth place among eleven teams.
Chung leads Oregon individually, tied for eighth place at one-over-par after two rounds. The Ducks’ other counting scores came from Tong An and Shyla Singh, who contributed solid efforts across both rounds.
Oregon will begin Tuesday’s final round at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time on hole number one. Live coverage will be available on CGNPlus.com’s YouTube channel.
