The Oregon women’s lacrosse team lost to Michigan with a final score of 16-3, according to a March 29 report. The Ducks started strong by scoring the first two goals but were unable to maintain their lead against the No. 5 ranked Wolverines.
This result matters as it marks Oregon’s fourth loss against a ranked opponent this season and leaves them still seeking their first Big Ten win. Despite the loss, sophomore goalkeeper Kate Shields had a standout performance with a career-high 13 saves on 33 shots faced.
Avery Young scored early for Oregon, followed by Gabby Santucci, giving the Ducks an initial advantage. However, Michigan responded with five consecutive goals and dominated after halftime by adding nine more scores in the second half. Emma Ing contributed Oregon’s only goal in the latter part of the game.
Shields anchored the defense throughout, making six saves in the first quarter and five more in the final period. The Ducks forced three turnovers and collected eleven ground balls during play. They also completed seventeen out of twenty clear attempts but were outshot overall by Michigan.
Looking ahead, Oregon will return home for its penultimate game of the season when they host No. 8 Johns Hopkins on Saturday, April 4.
