A coalition of sustainability-focused organizations announced on April 14 that the Re-Imagine Earth Day event will return for its second year, inviting community members to participate in activities aimed at promoting a healthier planet. The event is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion located at 85 E. 8th Ave., Eugene.

The organizers say the event provides an opportunity for individuals and communities to learn about sustainable living and take practical steps toward environmental responsibility. Activities will include connecting with local organizations and businesses focused on sustainability, exploring eco-friendly products, meeting artisans who use recycled or upcycled materials, enjoying performances by groups such as Eugene Bhangra and Ballet Folklórico Colibrí, and sampling food from vendors like Red Five Hot Dogs.

Sponsors of this year’s celebration include Bye Bye Mattress—a program of the Mattress Recycling Council—Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission, Lane County Waste Management, and the City of Eugene Waste Prevention Program. Attendees can engage with various nonprofits and agencies that promote sustainable behaviors through their programs and services.

According to the official website, Lane County is a government entity in western Oregon with its administrative hub in Eugene that provides essential public services such as public safety, health programs—including those focused on youth—and elections. The county maintains key facilities to support government operations across more than 4,600 square miles of varied terrain encompassing urban, suburban, rural, and coastal landscapes.

Lane County extends these services throughout western Oregon communities under a home rule structure designed to enhance public service quality and community well-being according to its official website.

The Re-Imagine Earth Day event is hosted by a coalition including MECCA (Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts), BRING Recycling Center, City of Eugene Waste Prevention Program, and Waste Wise Lane County—a part of Lane County Waste Management. For more information or questions about participation in this year’s event, residents are encouraged to contact Mitra Gruwell at MECCA or visit www.wastewiselane.org/earth.
