EUGENE POLICE DEPARTMENT: MCI investigators seeking tips in fatal pedestrian-vehicle incident

Eugene Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 16.

UPDATE ON MARCH 23, 2022:

The involved vehicle has been located and is no longer of interest. Walter Max Sledge, age 62, of Walton, was arrested around 1:15 p.m. on March 22, without incident in this case and lodged at Lane County Jail on charges of Hit and Run and Murder. 

 Detectives are still seeking any uninvolved witnesses of the crash, who may not yet have been contacted. Please contact Detective Chris Vreim:

UPDATE ON MARCH 17, 2022: 

The involved pedestrian, identified as Dylan Mark Wilson, age 29, of Eugene, has died from his injuries.

RELEASED INFORMATION ON MARCH 16, 2022

On March 14 at approximately 10:10 p.m., a pedestrian-vehicle crash was reported at Beltline and W. 11th Avenue in Eugene. A Eugene man, age 29, was injured after being hit by a vehicle. Investigators believe the injured man was in a road rage incident, and had exited his vehicle to approach an unknown, lifted, two-tone, single cab truck. Based on video footage, the suspect vehicle struck the victim and then fled westbound on W. 11th Avenue. The involved truck may or may not have corresponding damage. 

 

The injured man was transported to a local hospital where he remains with life-threatening injuries.

 

Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation team is asking for the public’s helping in identifying and locating the involved driver and truck.
