Lane County - OR issued the following announcement on Mar. 21.
Lane County’s Fleet Services Division has finished the installation of an electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the main parking area at Howard Buford Recreation Area (Mt. Pisgah).
“Lane County is focused on reducing carbon emissions by increasing electric vehicle use for its own services and making it easier for community members to go electric, too,” said Lane County Public Works Analyst Nathan Mitchell-Hooks. “We are so excited to make this charging station available to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to Mt. Pisgah each year. It’s also important to thank our Lane County Parks staff, Emerald People’s Utility District and Mount Pisgah Arboretum. We all worked together on this project and hope that it’s the first of many.”
The charging station is operational now and can serve two vehicles at a time. Park visitors can connect their vehicles for a fee of $1 per hour while they hike. Users will need the free ChargePoint app in order to use the station.
“Stewardship and conservation are cornerstones of the work we do at the Arboretum,” said Brad van Appel, Mount Pisgah Arboretum executive director. “Expanding access for electric vehicles here at the park just made sense. We hope to see many of our visitors take advantage of the new charging station while they hike, play and learn inside the park.”
The project was made possible in part by a $24,000 Business Grant award from Emerald People’s Utility District.
