Lane County - OR issued the following announcement on Apr. 6.
Lane County Parks is making progress on its efforts to expand camping at Armitage Park. After gathering neighbor and public feedback in 2019, the plan has been narrowed to 21 new RV-friendly campsites on a new loop in the northwest area of the park.
“We have seen the demand for campsites explode over the past five years,” said Lane County Parks Manager Brett Henry. “Armitage is one of our most popular parks, open year-round, and we are excited that we have the space to expand and help meet the demand for locals and visitors alike.”
Residents – especially those who live near or who frequent the park – are encouraged to attend an open house on Tuesday, April 12, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lane County Public Works Goodson Room, Willamette Building (3040 N. Delta Highway, Eugene).
The open house will showcase preliminary maps and drawings of the proposed expansion, solicit feedback on how best to use the common areas in the campground, and cover project timelines.
“The feedback we gathered from neighbors and industry partners pre-pandemic was instrumental and we hope they see their voices reflected in the current plan, especially in regard to preserving the open field area for day use, preserving tree cover and adding a manageable number of new sites,” said Henry.
Expansion of campsites includes increasing the capacity of the park’s water, sewer and electrical systems to accommodate the additional spaces. Lane County Parks is still seeking funding in order to complete the expansion. More information about the project is available at www.LaneCountyOR.gov/armitage.
Lane County Parks is funded primarily through user fees; the division does not receive property tax funding.
