City of Eugene issued the following announcement on May 17.
National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week celebrates its 47th year during the week of May 15 – 21, 2022. EMS Week highlights the dedicated individuals committed to providing quality emergency medical care to their community 24 hours per day, seven days per week. EMS teams engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills.
City of Eugene’s Mayor Lucy Vinis announced the proclamation and observation of EMS week during the May 9, 2022, City of Eugene City Council meeting. The City of Springfield’s Mayor Sean VanGordon will announce the same proclamation of EMS Week at the City of Springfield’s City Council meeting on May 16, 2022.
Eugene Springfield Fire will be observing EMS Week through actions of gratitude for EMS staff and activities for the community to participate in.
“Our staff has chosen to work in this career, a difficult and stressful career, and they are amazing. They show bravery, courage, and demonstrate a high level of technical competency by rising to the challenge presented to them every day to serve their community. To me, EMS Week acknowledges the sacrifices that our employees have taken to serve. Not everyone has the privilege to do what we do, our staff have chosen to take the road not taken.” – JoAnna Kamppi, EMS Chief
