City of Eugene issued the following announcement on May 31.
Eugene Public Works is excited to announce Michelle Miranda as the newest Director of the Wastewater Division. She was hired in May after previously serving as the Wastewater Division’s Operations Manager.
“Throughout the interview process and in conversations with team members, it became clear that Michelle has a deep connection to the work of the wastewater team and finds great purpose in the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission mission of ‘clean water, community health, and the environment,’” said Matt Rodrigues, Public Works Director. “It was also clear that Michelle is genuinely committed to supporting the people of the Wastewater Division and striving to build an inclusive culture and sense of belonging across all members of the team.”
Michelle’s career at the City of Eugene began in 1995 as a Laboratory Analyst in the Wastewater Division’s Environmental Services Program, and in 2014 she began serving as the Environmental Services Supervisor, before moving over to Operations in 2019.
Michelle has a passion for people and the environment, and her educational and professional journeys have followed those paths. Her undergraduate Bachelor of Science Degree is from Willamette University in Salem Oregon and she holds a graduate certificate from the University of Oregon Planning, Public Policy, and Management Department focused on Public Administration and Sustainability.
Michelle is known for her authentic and inclusive leadership style and is deeply committed to serving the needs of the organization and community. As much as she loves her work, she also loves Oregon and finds great happiness participating in local 5K races, waterskiing, and playing the guitar.
