SPRINGFIELD AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Greenhill Humane Society Recognized in 100 Best Green Workplaces in Oregon

Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on June 15. 

Greenhill Humane Society is honored to be among Oregon Business Magazine’s “2022 100 Best Green Workplaces in Oregon.” Greenhill placed ninety-first with a score of 238.93.

“We are honored to be recognized and included on the list of the state’s top environmentally sustainable employers. As we continue to expand our facility and programs, we look at ways of reducing our environmental footprint while learning about and adopting more sustainable practices,” said Megan Burroughs, Greenhill’s Community Engagement & Humane Education Manager.

Greenhill Humane Society has made a number of recent changes to address environmental sustainability including improvements to the facilities and operations. The recently remodeled and expanded shelter incorporates extensive daylighting and energy efficient LED light fixtures, a heating system designed to incorporate passive zones and heat recapture, and wastewater filtration onsite using plants. Greenhill has transitioned much of its activities to paperless processes. Additionally, Greenhill places an emphasis

on recycling with easy options to recycle throughout the shelter and strives to purchase items in bulk to minimize trips and reduce packaging.

The list of the 100 Best Green Workplaces in Oregon showcases companies and nonprofits whose employees rate their employers’ sustainability efforts highly. The workplaces on the list have made measurable efforts to reduce their environmental footprint and adopt more sustainable practices.
