Summer Showcases bring free performances to Eugene community centers

The City of Eugene Recreation and Cultural Services divisions invite community members to enjoy four Summer Showcases over the next month. These free performances, held at City community centers, present the work of some of Eugene’s most iconic dance studios, musicians and creative artists.

People of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend the following events:

  • 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 at Petersen Barn Community Center: Xcape Dance Academy presents a hip-hop dance show for the whole family, followed by a free dance workshop. No prior dance experience is necessary.
  • 3-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 at Campbell Community Center: spend a joyous afternoon in Campbell’s gardens listening to the sweet sounds of Orchestra NEXT as they combine Eugene’s creative and vibrant professionals with the region’s most talented protégés.
  • 5-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at Amazon Community Center: three local dance groups will grace the stage at the Amazon Amphitheater. Danceability will incorporate audience participation with a performance, Eugene Bhangra will explore Bollywood themes and Thrill the World will perform two flash mob routines, including their fan-favorite “Thriller.”
  • 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 at Sheldon Community Center: join #instaballet in an interactive experience that allows the viewers to participate in ballet choreography. Audience ideas and suggestions are used to shape a new dance in real time, resulting in community-created art and an evening of fun.

More information about Summer Showcases can be found online at eugene-or.gov/showcases. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and picnics.

Eugene Recreation creates transformative experiences that build social connections and enhance the health, happiness and livability of our community. Cultural Services provides year-around programming to promote public art and cultural events throughout Eugene.
