Lane County Parks, Oregon State Marine Board host Oct. 17 community meeting for Forest Glen Landing

Lane County Parks and Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) are hosting a community meeting on Monday, October 17, at 6:00 p.m. in the McKenzie School gymnasium (51187 Blue River Drive).

Lane County Parks and OSMB are gearing up to significantly improve the river access at Forest Glen. Hearing from community members during the October 17 meeting will help project planners understand how the facility is used by park visitors and what improvements could make the popular landing safer and easier to use. Earlier this year, Lane County Parks received a Waterway Access Grant from OSMB to hire consultants to complete an archaeological survey and wetland delineation report to advance the concept design to the permitting phase.

“Forest Glen is one of our more popular launch sites for fishing and rafting along the McKenzie River,” said Lane County Parks Manager Brett Henry. “This project with Oregon State Marine Board will help us get this park back up and running with the proper facilities that improve the boating experience so that it can welcome people again. The grant funding and partnership from the Marine Board is an important part of bringing this park back to life.”

“We’re excited to hear from the community and to work with Lane County Parks to help shape the future facility design,” said Janine Belleque, boating facility manager for the Marine Board.

In addition to improving the boat ramps, Lane County Parks has received FEMA funding to help replace the vault restroom destroyed by the Holiday Farm Fire. Overall proposed improvements at Forest Glen Park will include repairing and expanding the parking lot and creating ADA parking and enhanced access.

Forest Glen Landing is located along the McKenzie River in the community of Blue River (near milepost 41). It is nearly 2 acres in size and includes a gravel parking area, a double-vault restroom, and three boat landings. Forest Glen was destroyed in the Holiday Farm Fire and most of the infrastructure, including the toilets, has yet to be repaired or replaced.
