The heritage rose section of Owen Rose Garden has undergone some exciting upgrades just in time to celebrate spring’s blooms.

Recent improvements include the removal of old utility poles lining a gravel maintenance road in the center of the heritage rose garden beds. In their place, boulders have been arranged by Daichi Landscape, a local landscape company. A generous donation from Elaine Sedlack, a long-time volunteer, made these improvements possible.

Additionally, the Lane Community College welding program designed, fabricated, and installed 10 custom steel supports for climbing roses. While Parks and Open Space purchased the materials, students in the program were responsible for bringing the design to life. Students looked to the existing trellises for inspiration. These new steel supports will provide a sturdy structure for the climbing roses while adding a unique aesthetic to the gardens.

Starting on May 20, visitors to Owen Rose Garden can enjoy free weekly tours hosted by the Owen Rose Garden Docents every Saturday at 10 a.m. These tours will provide an opportunity to discover the history and unique charm of the heritage roses in one of the most extensive collections in the Pacific Northwest.

Keep an eye out for tour announcements on the Parks Facebook and Instagram pages.
