Hendricks Park received 13 awards at the annual Rhododendron Flower Show competition hosted by the Eugene Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society.

In the first show since 2018, the event took place on Saturday, May 6 at the Gordon Hotel's 5th Street Public Market Alley, where participants gathered to display their finest spring trusses for judging.

A “truss” is the technical term for the flower cluster that forms when a rhododendron blooms. Typical of truss shows, the event featured numerous competition categories, including flower color, best foliage, and best azaleas.

In advance of Saturday’s show, volunteers on the Hendricks Park Truss Team assisted in the collection and preparation of entries from the historic Rhododendron Garden at Hendricks Park.

Official entries from the City’s oldest developed park won an impressive seven first place ribbons, three second place ribbons, and three third place ribbons across multiple categories.

Audience favorites from Hendricks Park included the pink ‘Mrs. G.W. Leak,' the glossy ‘Wiltonii,' and the buttercream ‘Phyllis Korn’ varieties.

On the day of the show, City of Eugene staff and volunteers were on-hand to lend support and answer questions.

Flower show visitors to the Hendricks Park booth learned about the park’s history, local volunteer opportunities, gardening tips, and more!

Visitors to Hendricks Park on Mother’s Day should be aware that Fairmont Blvd will be turned into a one-way road from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. to help accommodate the influx of traffic. Staff will be on-site to help assist with traffic flow and parking.
