If you have illegal fireworks at your home, there is an opportunity for you to get rid of them without getting cited! 

Come to one of these locations’ parking lot to drop them off: 

• Saturday, 01 July from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Eugene Fire Station 2 – 1705 W. 2nd Avenue Eugene, Oregon 97402
  • Springfield Fire Station 3 – 1225 28th St. Springfield, Oregon 97477
• Sunday, 02 July from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Springfield Fire Station 3 – 1225 28th St. Springfield, Oregon 97477 

The event is only open to private individuals, not commercial parties. Do NOT take fireworks to a police or fire station outside of these listed dates.

Fireworks Ban

In 2022, the Eugene City Council voted 6-2 to ban fireworks in addition to the restrictions provided under state law within the city limits of Eugene due to the fire danger they pose and their impact on people and pets. The ban penalty is a fine not to exceed $500. The ban became effective October 29, 2022, and makes it unlawful to: 

1. Sell, use, light, detonate or display any “consumer” fireworks anywhere in the city at any time.
2. Use, light detonate or display any “display” fireworks anywhere in the city at any time except July 3 through July 5, unless specifically authorized by the City Manager or designee. 

Pursuant to section (5) of Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 480.111 regarding “exempt consumer fireworks” and other items categorized as “novelties” under Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) 837-012-0510 Section 15, and as defined in the American Pyrotechnics Standard (APA) 87-1 section 3.2.1 - the following list of approved exempt consumer fireworks and novelties are allowed in the City of Eugene: 

• Paper Caps (containing 0.25 grains or less of explosive mixture)
• Model Rockets and model rocket motors that are used to propel recoverable models of rocket
• Booby Trap/Pull Apart (containing 0.016 grams or less of composition weight)
• Novelty Flitter Sparklers (containing 5 grams or less of composition weight)
• Party Poppers (containing 0.016 grams or less of composition weight)
• Snakes or similar smoke producing items (containing 100 grains or less of combustible substances)
• Novelty Snakes (containing 2 grams or less of composition weight)
• Snappers [pop-its] (containing 0.001 grams or less of composition weight)
• Novelty Wire Sparklers or Novelty Dipped Sticks (containing 25 grams or less of composition weight)
• Novelty Smoke Devices (containing 5 grams or less of composition weight) 

Eugene Springfield Fire has a Fireworks App (Fireworks Alert)  - https://www.eugene-or.gov/120/Fire-and-Emergency-Medical-Services Look for the links to “Download Fireworks Alert App”. City officials receive the information along with the geo location from where the picture was taken. Reports will not result in immediate action. Information will be gathered and analyzed to identify areas of the community to target future education and enforcement efforts.

To report consumer fireworks within the Eugene city limits, call 541.682.5111.  The Eugene base fine for illegal fireworks is $500 The social host ordinance in Eugene also applies to fireworks. The social host, or ordinance on unruly gatherings, holds individuals criminally responsible for hosting, organizing and allowing an unruly event or social gathering. Eugene property owners where the event is hosted will also be penalized if there are multiple violations of this ordinance at the same property. The Eugene Municipal Court has assigned a base fine of $375 for criminal violations of this ordinance. Both hosts and property owners could be civilly liable for police, fire and public works response to repeated illegal gatherings that fall under this ordinance. For more information: Social Host
